The animators continue to implement small-scale cultural and artistic activities on a daily basis with children under 12 years old, such as storytelling, free reading a and fine arts at Al Khadir Street in Deir Al-Balah. Also animators are working on beautifying the walls of Al Khadir Street with mosaics in preparation for its opening as a library for children at the end of summer.
NAWA invited all interested people, such as Al Khadir neighborhood residents and youth groups , to participate in voluntary work of beautifying and cleaning Al Khadir Street. The children of Deir Al-Balah city, who helped in cleaning the Al-Khidr monastery area as a part of the community self-help program, were also among the volunteers. These activities took place together with the restoration of Al Khadir Monastery which is expected to be completed by RIWAQ and IWAN Center for Architectural Heritage by the beginning of 2017 , when it will be used as children’s library by Nawa for Culture and Arts. The project is supported by the Swedish Government through UNESCO, Institut du Patrimoine Wallon (IPW), and Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI).
