The Power of Culture confronting the Culture of Power
Al-Nawa decided to complete the implementation of activities and training courses from home using electronic apps such as virtual classes, Zoom and social media platforms nevertheless the novel health conditions that obliged us and those around us to stay home to stay healthy.
Since the onset of the quarantine, Al-Nawa published "Al-Nawa in Our Home" weekly pamphlet, which includes cultural, art and scientific activities for children such as storytelling, learning the art of printing, drawing and recycling techniques, in addition to experiencing interesting scientific experiments.
The children of Deir Al-Balah met with the Jerusalem children once a week for the first time using the Zoom app in the story telling activity, to listen together to various stories that addressed humanitarian and environmental issues.
Al-Nawa continued the activities for adolescents implementing training courses in photography topics and holding cultural meetings during the course of the activities of the Book Club.
In respect to educators' activities, , 35-hour training courses were offered on “Google Classroom” and E-learning technologies in order to develop their capabilities in using E-learning techniques to administer the educational process online in light of the Corona pandemic.
Regarding the parents' activities, training courses were offered on learning to make dolls in all their forms and types, such as finger puppets and bridal dolls.
Also, Al-Nawa's team of educators prepared educational worksheets on the basic subjects: “Arabic, English, Mathematics and Science”. The papers included attractive interactive questions that encourage children to study, such as: matching, filling in the blanks and coloring. Palestinian Ministry's books and reliable online educational resources were used while links were added to educational YouTube channels to help parents explain educational worksheets published once a week on social media.
Al-Nawa activities during the quarantine included cultural meetings. The Syrian writer specializing in children's literature, Jaker Khorshid, was hosted to talk about his writing experience and give advice to Al-Nawa's staff in relation to choosing and telling stories for children. The writer Amir Daoud was also hosted to talk about His experience in writing and discussing his first novel "Friend of Zero Destiance", in which he tells about his Palestine that he lived and portrayed in this wonderful literary masterpiece in a rich and beautiful narration.
