In 2011, Reem Abu Jaber established Al Hekayat Kindergarten as a community contribution for Deir Al Balah, and she donated it entirely to the NAWA association in 2015.
Palestine is the cradle of religions. At the Al Khidr Monastery in Deir Al Balah, one of the most ancient existing monasteries to this day (built in the 4th century A.D), there is a mosque and a church side-by-side, which have existed for hundreds of years.
In 2017 with a total space of 250 m², the Association opened NAWA gallery which is the first of its kind in the Middle area. It provides the children in Gaza with a specialized program in interactive arts and sciences. The Gallery focuses on presenting interactive arts and sciences that are linked to the formal education curricula of schools
For children, playing is a vital element to their learning and social growth; being in playgrounds and nature also increases concentration, learning and an improvement in achievements in school. The Association established NAWA Playgrounds (Al Bayyara & Al Hakoora) on two dunums.
The work of Al-Zaytouna Center started simultaneous with the Israeli aggression in Gaza in 2014; this required the development of an ongoing program for psychological support services for the affected children such as therapeutic arts, storytelling and motion activities
NAWA Association built its three-floor building in a way that reflects some elements of old Palestinian houses to connect the children with their roots and heritage. The Building contains Al Hekayat Kindergarten, NAWA Gallery and Administration and Training.
“I felt overjoyed when I saw that NAWA teaches music and arts, and it encourages reading and learning. Before joining the Association, I did not have any activities; I used to spend most of my time at home and school. I cannot believe that I found a place to help me learn the basics of music like the scales, harmony and rhythm.”
