The Power of Culture confronting the Culture of Power
For children, playing is a vital element to their learning and social growth; being in playgrounds and nature also increases concentration, learning and an improvement in achievements in school.
The Association established NAWA Playgrounds (Al Bayyara & Al
Hakoora) on two dunums. They are eco-friendly, and include a library, an
open-air wooden theater and areas for arts, drawing and free play.
There is also a dedicated corner for children under the age of six and
their parents, and a corner for reusing the available environmental
elements.
Every day, the Playgrounds receive hundreds of
children, parents and local institutions to benefit from art, culture,
environment and non-formal education activities. The Playgrounds are
considered as an inclusive environment for all children. A
child-friendly area was built in association with Atfaluna Society for
Deaf Children to create a recreational environment and space for
children with disabilities.
NAWA Playgrounds (Al Bayyara & Al
Hakoora) team consists of a coordinator and four specialized animators
in the field of story, drama, arts and clowning. Uncle Karkar is the
famous clown in the Playgrounds, and children gather around to watch his
funny shows.

NAWA, through the Playgrounds, mainly aimed to create child-friendly and safe spaces through which non-formal education, fun and recreation activities are empowered away from the street and other dangerous places. The idea came to promote environmental concepts by using recycled wood.
To preserve the Palestinian identity, NAWA Playgrounds offer specialized activites in collecting the oral heritage in Deir Al Balah
It represents an element of attraction for the visitors of NAWA Playgrounds; it offers entertainment, joy and comfort for children. The games include rollercoasters where children can experience something thrilling.
The wooden theater is located in the open air, and offers a wide collection of theatrical performances and entertainment shows related to Palestinian heritage and other themes.
It is an open-air area in designed to teach all kinds of visual (plastic and applied) arts, besides skills related to reusing natural raw materials.
It offers folk and global storytelling activities using various techniques.
It is an old bus converted to a children’s library, which contains a wide selection of books. Located in the middle of Al Bayyara, children can read books and watch the library corners at the same time as the theater, art hall and games.
This child-friendly area was built in association with Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children; it represents a recreational environment and space for children with disabilities. The area contains shock-absorbing ground to protect children and a number of games such as special swings to carry wheelchairs.
A special place was designed for young children equipped with age-appropriate games. There is a separate area for older children to prevent any accidents that might result from playing.
